good quality SD card socket
good quality SD card socket
Hello,
We have been having some problems with the reliability of the SD card socket that we use on our application board. Our one is very difficult to solder reliably to the pcb, flimsy pads for CD and WP especially.
I wonder if anyone can recommend a good reasonably priced SD socket.
Thanks,
Michael.

That 3M SD card socket appears to have gone to a very long lead time. Anyone know where I can get 50 of them please?

SD card socket P/N
I have a few boards that use a 3M SD card socket, 3M P/N: SD-RSMT-2-MQ-WF, Digi-Key P/N: 3M5646CT-ND. Bad news is that Digi, Mouser, & Newark indicate the part is "obsolete." I think someone at Netburner mentioned it was used on some of the NB Dev Boards, and in fact that's what seems to be on the most recent V1.12 Dev Board. Any one know of a source or a cross with the same footprint? If not, any suggestions for a micro SD socket? If I have to switch, I might as well go smaller...
Thanks!
Thanks!

Hi RG,
Finding something with the same foot print might be tricky.
I used the following Molex part on my boards and it works just fine. It is a Micro SD type and is push-push. Farnell show a few thousand in stock.
Farnell stock code 1366700
Molex code 49225-0821
You can probably get these from Newark etc but I have not checked this.
I love the Molex parts as you can get nice 3D Step models of them from their website.

V8, thanks... hoping for same FP. I agree the Molex STEP downloads are great! TYCO has them too.
Re: good quality SD card socket
Good luck finding a replacement. All these SD sockets seem to be so different in how they mount, unlike other types of socket. )
Tyco is superb for 3D models. Use them all the time. Harwin and Samtec are also favourites of mine for 3D models.
What PCB software do you use? I am running Altium Designer (currently Summer 09 until they release AD10 - if they ever do)
Cheers.

Re: good quality SD card socket
Cadence for PCBs, SolidWorks for most other CAD
Re: good quality SD card socket
Would love to afford Solidworks but my budget went on Altium Designer so had to plump with Alibre Design. Good enough for the work I do and I can generate the 3D models for the PCB design just as good anyway.
I did a quick look around at other SD sockets but the mounting tabs and top side or bottom side contacts makes it difficult to find an exact match. I think your redesign might be a lot easier if you afford it time and cost wise. It is a lot easier these days to find Micro SD cards cheaper than SD anyway.
Good luck
