Hi, I have two SBL2e-100 Rev 1.2
In both when I connect 3.3V, the current is around 316mA and the chip is very hot to the finger.
Both works properly, they are detected by IPsetup and the web server for configuration.
I didn´t test by now the setial comms.
Are this current and temperature normal values?. The manual says the maximum current is 250mA
Thanks in advance
SBL2e-100 hot and 316mA current
Re: SBL2e-100 hot and 316mA current
Hello,
The SBL2e does run warmer than just a processor because the Ethernet PHY is part of the chip. The data sheet on the product page for the SBL2e-100IR states the power at 300mA typical. The power draw can be higher depending on what your program is doing, such as the amount of Ethernet traffic.

A power source of 3.3V at 500mA is recommended for your design to provide plenty of head room.
It looks like there is a reference to 250mA in the serial to Ethernet software manual, and I will initiate a ticket to have it removed. The purpose of that manual is to describe the software; all hardware related specifications should only be in the hardware data sheet (in the above link).
