Would it be possible to customize this forum a bit to allow users to choose to receive email notifications of all new posts (the way it worked on yahoo?).

I know this information exists somewhere but I couldn't find it.

At the top right hand corner of the forum you will find a link to the User Control Panel. Open this and the select User Groups. Join the group that says email notification.

This is probably a bit obvious - but ..

So is the converse true that if I want to stop receiving email notifications for a few weeks (while on holiday for example), I can just resign from the email notification group, then re-join when I return?

The popup at the bottom has three choices, one to join, one to resign and one to demote. Use the join and resign options. Demoting would appear to be valid only for admins.

Yes - resigning seems to have done the trick. I've not had any email notifications all day.
