MOD5270 Config Record Core MAC address Vs. Ethernet Mac Addr

Hello,

In the MOD5270 Config record, there is a "Core Mac Address" (base unit mac address) and a "MAC" address (Ethernet Mac Address). What's the difference, and when would these two values be different?

Would there ever be a reason for the core mac address to be zero?

Thanks.

This is used in devices with multiple network interfaces, such as wifi or dual ethernet. One interface is primary, and other interfaces are like childs of the primary interface. This way, you can identify single products that have multiple interfaces on your network.

The same exact structure is used in the configrecord and in the ipsetup/find/autoupdate device location system.

In the config record the core address is unused, in the find protocols this is filled in with the MAC address of the first network interface,
this way when IPSETUP sees multiple interfaces it knows how to combine them into one device.

Thanks for the advice.

So if I understand this correctly, in the MOD5270, the Core Mac Address should always be ignored, and the Ethernet Mac Address should always be used, both in the MOD5270 itself, and in the config record sent as part of the discovery process.

Yes that is fine for a device with one interface.

In discovery mode they should be identical.
